Heyyyy people I'm back! Anyone out there still reading my blog? Shall make this entry more about food (but of course you'll still see my face, sorry about that! hahaha). Gonna jot down the highlights (food-related) of my two overseas trip. KL is over-seas okay, and BKK definitely is.
Allow me to rant a lil before I start the (food) ball rolling. The Royale Bintang has a good location, I'll admit that. However, the hygiene level of the bathroom... I simply cannot accept it. We're paying customers (not me this time), so there should be some basic expectations right? The only good thing was we got free wifi connection, at least I could still tweet and stay connected with the world (via FB) when 2011 arrived. Oh wait, there's another good thing about The Royale Bintang, we had a clear view of the fireworks display all over town when the clock struck 12, superb view in fact.
On to the food... Remember, only the HIGHLIGHTS, the MUST-TRY, and the MUST-EAT.
Pork&chicken satay, which probably tasted delicious to me because I like the "fatty-strips" and I don't really care if it's sinful (when it comes to satay). I mean, satay itself is already not a healthy dish eh? Oh please, the onion and cucumber at the side is just to make you THINK that it's healthy. "Marketing trick" hahaha. Jokes aside, the meat was pretty tender and the seasoning was just right.
This was only the proportion I had on my plate, which was probably about 1/10 of the entire dish. My sister says this is "sang har mian" (I have no idea what it means, except for the word "mian" which means noodles). WARNING: EXTREMELY SINFUL, but one of the best noodles I've ever eaten in my life. QQ-noodles and rich sauce. This dish totally jacked up the bill which came up to about RM500 thereabouts. It's good to not be the one paying for this trip (thank you Siang's dad!)
Think of this as.... the Geylang lorong9 beef kuaytiao, but a thousand times better. Definitely a must-eat.
Well, you can't find this in SG anymore eh? A simple root beer float is satisfying enough for anyone. By the way, is there a patent for root beer float? Why isn't Macs or KFC or ANY OTHER FAST FOOD RESTAURANT even considering promoting this?
Sidetrack a lil..

 Being grouchy about the bathroom.
Excellent chicken wings!! I bet you can tell how oily it was eh? Normally I would give the chicken wings a miss (because it's so troublesome and I don't wanna get my hands dirty) but thankfully, I didn't this time.
Was this black pepper crab? It was kinda spicy, in a good way though.
If you have me as a friend on FB, you would know that BKK = Buy Krispy Kreme. More on that later.
Our first time on a plane tgt. Ahhh I shouldn't have let Siang take the window seat HMPH. Anyway, I have this problem with my ears when there's a sudden change in air pressure, you know what I mean right? So most of the time, I try sleeping on the plane until it lands. Surprisingly, didn't feel a thing this time.
First (food) purchase in BKK. Just a random street stall outside our hotel. Cost 10baht but boy was it yummy!!! It was like a sausage crepe. See? I'm trying to snatch it from Siang. :) Towards the end of the trip, I was actually hunting for the sausages the guy used, because it tasted nothing like those in SG, it was much better!!!
KRISPY KREME, original-glazed.Greedy Siang in action. Look at the "cracked" glaze at my thumb. Yumzzzzzzzz. I'm craving for one already. Siang said he won't mind having a KK donut EVERY MORNING for breakfast, complemented with a cup of coffee. Hmmm.. same sentiments but can you imagine how fat I'll be?
Another random purchase which turned out to be very very tasty. Warning: SINFUL! Coconut filling, with corn. It's at the basement of Siam Paragon. Look out for it, you won't regret! Very cheap too, 35baht for.... 12!!!!!!! That's less than SGD$2?? Where to find such cheap deals in SG?
Thai iced tea, EXTREMELY sweet, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Normally I would order teh o GA-DAI (which means more sugar) in kopitiams so this was... heaven to me. HAHAHA. 35baht only! WHY ALL THE FOOD SO CHEAP? MAKE ME FAT ONLY.
Couldn't give up the opportunity to take a photo with MY Cesc Fabregas. If he were a dish, he would be delicious. Hence, he has been included in this food-related post.
Very popular street stall outside Platinum Mall. Fish and chicken to round up Day 1! The skin of the fish was f-salty by the way, but of course you weren't expected to eat the skin, so... no biggie.
At Chatuchak at 10am. Think of this as Ayam Penyet with thai sticky rice. It's near Entrance number 3 so look out for it. I would say this is one of the top 3 MUST-EAT stalls you gotta dine at in BKK. I really loved it.
This is the "legendary" coconut icecream. We searched high and low for this, and... it was my main aim of going to Chatuchak. You can't find it anywhere in SG. Seriously, someone should think about selling this in SG. It's unique, delicious, and I think it'll be a big success!! Just look at it!!

We tried two different stalls and I honestly don't know which tasted better. Both had different toppings but both still tasted great! I'm such a coconut-person. I guess the one in the coconut husk would be the more popular one but the other one had sticky rice and nata-jelly in it! I would say... eat both.
My BKK trip this time was fruitful because I HAD THE BEST PINEAPPLE RICE EVER, HANDS DOWN. It's at Somboon Seafood Restaurant and I HIGHLY recommend that EVERYONE give it a try (at least before you die HAHAHAHA choyyyy).
Looking at it makes me salivate. Definitely one of the main highlights of the trip!!!! I hope my family wouldn't mind going there during our CNY trip. The place is on the pricey end but I don't mind going there purely for the pineapple rice! It's only 200baht for a lil plate of heaven. Despite being carbo-sensitive, I WILL TAKE ONE WHOLE PLATE FOR MY OWN CONSUMPTION. I even got to "dig" for more pineapple cubes after we were done with the rice hahaha
Quality of crab was so-so (not worth the price). So why is it being featured in the post? Well, the chilli paste... I COULDN'T STOP EATING IT. I really can't take spicy food but for this, I didn't mind getting burning lips and throat and tongue. If only I could order the paste on its own without the crab..
Last day of the trip, which means... QUEUE FOR KRISPY KREME AT 10AM, the moment Siam Paragon opens for business. There's even a separate queue outside Siam Paragon's entrance for people who wanna buy Krispy Kreme donuts.
After 90minutes.... we finally got our assorted-flavours. 3 boxes of 12 for each of us. 2 boxes of assorted flavours (which is not really worth the queue afterall) and 1 box of ORIGINAL GLAZED! There's actually an express queue for the original glazed ones so you can actually get your donuts within 10mins? I'm never spending 90mins for the assorted flavours again, the glazed ones taste better anyway. ^;^ I'm going back to BKK over the CNY holidays and Siang has already requested for me to buy back 24 original-glazed donuts for him hahahaha.
Grocery shopping at the insanely huge supermarket. We bought thai sauces and thai maggi mee and thai crackers and everything thai!!
Going overseas without my family is pretty different. And I had to plan where to go at what time etc. All in all, it was a good trip to BKK and I can't wait for my next overseas trip with Siang (or my family or my friends)!
ENJOY YOUR SUNDAY, PEOPLE! :) I'm heading out for bak kut teh with my sister and Ana WOOHOOOOOOO |
